Play FreeCell Solitaire Online for Free

All 52 cards dealt face-up — skill beats luck every time.

FreeCell is unique among solitaire games because nearly every deal is solvable. All cards are visible from the start, so winning comes down to planning ahead, not luck of the draw. Use the four free cells as temporary storage and build all four foundations from Ace to King to win.

How to Play FreeCell

FreeCell is played with a single 52-card deck. All cards are dealt face-up into eight tableau columns at the start, so the entire game is visible. The goal is to move all cards onto the four foundation piles, sorted by suit from Ace to King.

The Four Areas

Tableau
Eight columns of cards all dealt face-up. Build tableau piles downward in alternating colors — a red 7 can go on a black 8. You can move single cards, or sequences of cards if you have enough free cells and empty columns available.
Free Cells
Four empty cells in the upper-left. Each can hold exactly one card as temporary storage. Use them to maneuver cards around the tableau. Running out of free cells is the most common way to get stuck.
Foundations
Four piles in the upper-right, one per suit. Build each from Ace up to King. Fill all four to win.

Moving Multiple Cards

You can move a sequence of cards between columns in one move, but only if you have enough free space. The maximum number of cards you can move at once equals (free cells available + 1) × 2^(empty columns). With 2 free cells and 1 empty column, you can move up to 6 cards at once.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is FreeCell always winnable?

Almost. Of the 32,000 standard numbered deals, only a handful (notably deal #11982) are unsolvable. In practice, every deal you encounter here is extremely likely to be solvable with the right strategy.

What is the best FreeCell strategy?

Work to uncover and move Aces and 2s to the foundation early. Avoid filling all free cells at once — always keep at least one cell available for maneuvering. Build long sequences when possible to move multiple cards efficiently.

Can I move stacks of cards at once?

Yes. The game calculates the maximum movable stack size based on your available free cells and empty columns. If you try to move too many cards and there isn't enough room, the move will be rejected.
