How to Play Klondike Solitaire

Klondike is the most popular form of solitaire in the world. The goal is to move all 52 cards onto the four foundation piles, one per suit, built up from Ace to King.

The Four Areas of the Board

Tableau
The seven columns in the lower half of the board. Cards are dealt here at the start. You build tableau piles downward in alternating colors — a red 7 can go on a black 8, for example. Only Kings (or stacks headed by a King) may be moved to empty tableau columns.
Stock Pile
The face-down deck in the upper-left corner. Click it to draw cards into the waste pile. When the stock is empty, clicking it redeals all waste cards back into the stock so you can draw again.
Waste Pile
Cards drawn from the stock appear here. In Turn 1 mode, one card is flipped at a time. In Turn 3 mode, three cards are flipped at once and only the top card is playable. The other two become available as the top card is moved.
Foundation Piles
The four piles in the upper-right, one for each suit (♣ ♦ ♥ ♠). Build each pile from Ace up to King. A complete foundation pile contains 13 cards. Fill all four to win the game.

Turn 1 vs Turn 3

Turn 1 is easier: you draw a single card from the stock each time. This gives you more control and visibility over upcoming cards. Turn 3 is the traditional Vegas-style challenge: three cards are drawn at once, and you can only play the top card of the three. Cycling through the stock repeatedly is penalized in scoring, making every draw decision more strategic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this solitaire game completely free?

Yes, 100% free. There are no premium features, no subscriptions, and no hidden charges. Just open the page and play as many games as you like.

Do I need to download or install anything?

No download required. The game runs entirely in your web browser using standard HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. It works in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and most modern mobile browsers.

How is my score calculated?

You earn points for productive moves: +10 for sending a card to a foundation, +5 for moving a card from the waste onto the tableau, and +5 for flipping a face-down tableau card. Moving a card back from a foundation costs −15 points. In Turn 3 mode, recycling the stock pile costs −100 points per cycle.

What is the difference between Turn 1 and Turn 3?

In Turn 1 mode you draw one card at a time from the stock, making it easier to access every card. In Turn 3 mode three cards are drawn simultaneously and only the top card is playable — the classic Vegas-style ruleset that rewards careful planning and makes winning significantly harder.

How many times can I use Undo?

You can undo up to 60 previous moves. Each undo reverses one complete game action (a card move, a flip, or a draw from stock). There is no score penalty for using undo, so feel free to experiment.
